When a charge fails, update your card on Plan & billing and we retry the charge automatically. Nothing is deleted while you sort it out.
Cards usually fail for ordinary reasons: an expired card, a spending limit, or a bank that wants you to confirm the charge.
Open Settings → Plan & billing. While a payment is due, the app brings you here wherever you click.
Choose Update payment in the Your payment failed banner, or Update next to Payment method.
Update your card in the billing portal that opens.
We retry the charge automatically, and Plan & billing shows the next attempt as Retry on with the date. To pay straight away, choose Pay invoice next to the unpaid invoice in Billing history at the bottom of the page.
While the payment is due
Your plan is on hold. Your monthly usage can't be spent, nothing publishes, and a Series skips its slot and posts again on its next day.
Your usage packs wait for you, and you can't buy a new one until the payment goes through.
Nothing is deleted. Your videos stay in your Library, and anything already on YouTube stays up.
On a renewal you get up to three emails as the retries run out, with a notification in the app each time.
Once the payment goes through, your monthly usage returns and everything carries on.
What the messages mean
Access suspended, payment overdue: every retry failed, so your subscription is unpaid. Update your payment method to settle it and get access back straight away.
Your upgrade payment didn’t go through: you're on the new plan, but your bank declined the upgrade charge or wants you to confirm it. Choose Complete payment to finish it and keep the upgraded plan.
If your card looks fine and the charge still fails, email [email protected] and a person will read it.
